The Owl's nest

A 3-day gathering for the hands-on seeding of a resilient forest

How can we engage more deeply with ecological restoration as a creative, communal process?

From Fire Scar to a Living Model

This land bears the story of a fire that burned through a monoculture eucalyptus plantation 15 years ago. This October, we gather to transform this high-risk corridor into a biodiverse, living firebreak.

This gathering is the first prototype of the ‘Nest’ model, a framework for rooting regenerative culture in place. Each Nest begins with a seeding event like this one: an immersive gathering to co-create infrastructure, community, and living projects. The Owl's Nest is the first seed of Rhíza (Greek for "root"), a network for growing these Nests into permanent living laboratories—physical nodes for practice and learning. If Rhíza is the mycelium, Nests are the fruiting bodies. We are asking: How can we create a replicable model for healing, so this cycle of loss is not our only story?

A Weekend of Practice & Connection

Hands-on weekend balancing focused land work, shared meals, and community connection.Shape the Land
Apply regenerative agroforestry by felling eucalyptus on contour to create terraces that build soil and slow water.
Plant the First Seeds
Inoculate soil with beneficial fungi and plant pioneer species for our successional food forest.
Share Knowledge & Stories
Participate in open discussions and skill shares about our regenerative relationship with the ecosystem.
Rest & Connect
Enjoy the creekside banya, foraging walks, or the peace of the oak forest.

Flow of the Gathering

Day 1: Arrival & Grounding

Arrive for lunch, open the circle, and dive into the project's principles, followed by an evening sauna.

Day 2: Hands in the Earth

A full day of practical land work—felling, shaping terraces, and planting together.

Day 3: Integration & Closing

A morning forum on next steps, followed by a closing circle and departure in the afternoon.
